The Network API Ecosystem: Current State and Challenges for 2026

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU has been electric! CAMARA hosted a standout panel featuring Nathan Rader (Chair of CAMARA’s governing body), Jill Lovato (The Linux Foundation), Huub Appelboom – Product Lead KPN (KPN), and Andres Burgoa (Aduna Global) during Cloud Native Telco Day, co-located with KubeCon.
The conversation focused on keeping things practical: Coverage—ensuring APIs are widely available, consistent, and well-supported—and use cases—what customers are actually buying and why. Panelists explored what “good” looks like when it comes to multi-operator availability, baseline expectations for conformance and SLAs, and how these factors drive real cloud adoption.
CAMARA was a part of Network X Americas in Dallas. Nick Venezia, CAMARA End User Council Representative to the Technical Steering Committee, joined industry leaders for conversations on how open network APIs are moving from standardization to real-world enterprise adoption.
Across sessions on NaaS, network API monetization, MCP servers, and AI-enabled applications, one message came through clearly: the next phase of digital infrastructure depends on making network capabilities easier for developers and enterprises to discover, use, and scale.
CAMARA’s open source API work continues to help bridge that gap by bringing operators, hyperscalers, technology providers, and developers together around consistent, interoperable network APIs.
CAMARA joined GSMA Open Gateway at DTW Ignite Copenhagen for three days of discussions around programmable networks, AI, and digital services. The community welcomed operators, developers, technology providers, and ecosystem partners to a shared booth while participating in industry discussions on API monetization, Open Gateway, TM Forum APIs, and AI. The CAMARA and GSMA Open Gateway networking reception also provided an opportunity for attendees to exchange ideas and strengthen collaboration across the ecosystem. One message remained consistent throughout the event: Collaboration will be essential to scaling interoperable Network APIs and delivering real-world business value. CAMARA’s open source API work continues to help bridge that gap by bringing operators, hyperscalers, technology providers, and developers together around consistent, interoperable network APIs.
