Device Reachability Status

API Description
Use Cases
  • Emergency Services: An emergency application queries the reachability status of a critical response team member. If the device is reachable via SMS, the system triggers an SMS alert, ensuring that the responder receives the message despite possible data connectivity issues.
  • Customer Support Platforms: A customer support platform checks the reachability of travellers through SMS before attempting to send a message or support ticket. If the device is reachable via SMS but not data, they ensure that only SMS-based communication is attempted.
  • IoT Devices: A fleet management system queries the reachability status of IoT devices in vehicles. If a device is reachable via data, the system can proceed with real-time monitoring. If it’s reachable only via SMS, the system may reduce the frequency of data updates or switch to less data-intensive communication methods.
  • Fraud Prevention: Verify that a customer’s mobile device is reachable before trusting calls or other communications that appear to originate from that device

Benefits
  • Real-time Connectivity Status: Allows for quick diagnostics of the connectivity status, making it easy to determine whether a device is available for communication, which is crucial for troubleshooting and ensuring reliable communication
  • Enhanced User Experience with Accurate Reachability Information: Allows businesses to adjust communication methods (SMS or app data) to ensure messages are delivered successfully, thus enhancing the customer experience
  • Efficient Network Utilization: Ensuring that a message or data is only sent only when the device is reachable minimizes failed connections, reduces unnecessary retries, and helps manage network resources more effectively, thus improving overall efficiency for service providers
