Celebrating CAMARA Community at MWC 2024

Anyone who attended Mobile World Congress 2024 (and there were 101,000 attending onsite) or read the buzz coming from the show will know that Network APIs were a trending topic. From the opening keynote to show floor demonstrations to the Open Gateway DevCon, CAMARA was a big part of the broader discussion.

See below for some of the key highlights from our time in Barcelona.

MWC 2024 Opening Keynote – “Open Gateway: The Art of What’s Possible”

  • As an Open Gateway partner, CAMARA was a big theme during the opening keynote, which set the stage for the entire event. GSMA director general Mats Granryd proclaimed: “In just 12 short months, we have seen strong growth [in Open Gateway]. Today, almost 240 operators representing over 65% of the mobile connections have joined Open Gateway. 40 operators have commercially launched over 90 CAMARA APIs that are ready to be used.” — Mats Granryd, director general, GSMA
  • The sessions also featured a Telefonica and TELUS customer, Unmanned Life, that is using QoD APIs and Authentication of Connected Devices to help operators ensure quality video streams from AI-operated security drones.

CAMARA sponsor organization, Centillion, was included in a roundtable discussion about the importance of open APIs with founder and CEO Nick Venezia.

CAMARA Meet & Greet

We had a packed room on Monday afternoon in the Partner Pavilion, as new, existing, and prospective CAMARA participants gathered to exchange ideas and discuss plans for collaboration. Thanks to all who participated!

CAMARA Evening Reception

Thanks to RedHat for generously hosting this event, and to Telefonica for supporting its organization, we had a fantastic turnout of about 80 attendees, including industry analysts and new and existing participants and members.

CAMARA-Based API Booth Demonstrations

Several CAMARA members and participants featured CAMARA-based API demos in their show floor booths, including: DT, CableLabs, Ericsson, Telefonica, Nabstract, Nokia, Orange, Verizon (3GFF), Vodafone,  and more.

Open Gateway DevCon

  • We had the opportunity to open the event, alongside TMForum and GSMA, with a quick panel discussion on how the 3 organizations work together to further open APIs and make it easier for developers to access what they need.
  • CAMARA was featured heavily throughout the rest of the agenda, including “Aggregated Network APIs for the German market,” with speakers from DT, Vodafone and Telefonica, as well as “Scaling Open Gateway for Developer Success through Cloud Platforms,” featuring thought leaders from Microsoft and Infobip. Sessions included examples and lessons learned from deployed CAMARA APIs such as SIM Swap and Quality of Service on Demand (QOSD).

We also had the opportunity to speak with several CAMARA participants and will be releasing quick video interviews featuring the folks making things happen across the community.

Big thank you again to all who participated and helped make the event(s) successful!
